With my love of watches often curtailed by the prices I was pleasantly surprised to find Weird Ape and their mantra of bringing people the “latest fashion items at prices that are not over inflated or over priced”.
Some of the watches they offer are pretty quirk-tastic but with all of them being priced at £25 you could easily buy a couple to quirk up a number of your outfits through the week. Due to the high level of quality watches all available at affordable prices i’ve put together my top 15 picks (and I struggled to whittle it down to that) from their web store as of February 2014.
This stylish sport like face with ornamental style cogs and design is big and bold.
A gold face and a number of cut outs allow you to see the layers of this design, allowing you to see something different every time you look at it.
This watch looks like it is part of the TRON legacy with its red and blue LED rev counter style display.
Piscara Multi Timezone Black
The Piscara looks more like your cars dash board with a number of clock faces on the curved rectangular face.
Excelsior Rectangle (also available in gold)
This vintage style rectangular clockface again features a crisply detailed clock face much like some of the Abbrecci models. Available in gold and silver it offers the option for you ti choose based on your preferred look.
Probably so called due to it’s menacing metallic look this is a killer piece of wrist-wear.
With it’s mat black clock face cut out to reveal the golden glow of the inner workings there’s a classy simplicity to be seen as the hands tick around orbit!
You can see why they named it exquisite! Its black and gold design including roman numerals, cogs on show and smaller minute face incorporated give this an elegant look. This is one that definitely makes a statement.
Mirtello Half Face
This is closer to a standard watch face but there are still sections of the white face missing to make a feature of the cogs inside.
The Mirtello White takes the whole making a feature of the watch parts in a different direction by creating a patterned metal face with elements of the watch piercing through in gold. Space is made for this by the numbers being arced around the very edge of the face allowing the sculpture like face to make a big impact.
This watch mixes the steely shine that gives it its name with a detailed face that patches together a number of elements. This includes the minutes being placed on the outer ring of the watch with an inner hour circle encasing the majority of the yellow cogs and levers that add that extra bit of character to the watch. Adding to this and giving an extra level of cool are the mini clock faces that point to the day of the week and the 24 hour clock.
Another cool use of numbers and a metallic outer and gold inner my description doesn’t do it justice but just check out the picture and drool!
Photon Brick Connect
This Lego love-in is not as classy as many of the other watches on show, but the geeky part of me loves the look of it and it’s something to get conversations started when you lift up your arm to check out the time!
The patterned metal work on this watch is something else, and gives the ruby an almost antique quality. Another that you just need to look at!
Another futuristic one. This all black watch looks slick and the rectangular face with it’s two blue LED panels (one for the hour and one for minutes) is a good look waiting to happen.
As you can see there are a number of high level watches available so be sure to head over to weirdape.co.uk to check them out now.
